Help to deal with anxiety, depression, family problems, and other life upsets is only a phone call away from 1736 Family Crisis Center's 24-hour crisis hotlines and community service centers.

24-hour crisis hotlines
Every hour of the day, every day of the year, you can get help to improve your or another's well-being by calling one of 1736 Family Crisis Center's 24-hour hotlines at:

A specially trained 1736 Family Crisis Center hotline counselor will listen with an open heart and offer immediate assistance. This includes referrals to the Center's community counseling programs and shelters and to other life-changing community aid.

All hotline calls are confidential and we accept collect calls.




Community counseling and case management
1736 Family Crisis Center offers a full spectrum of supportive counseling and other aid to improve the well-being of individuals of all ages at our community service centers in Los Angeles. Services provided at these sites to help individuals and families achieve emotional balance and healthy functioning include:
  • Emergency drop-in counseling offered weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Individual, family, and group counseling for children, teens, and adults in crisis
  • Play therapy and therapeutic games for youngsters aged 3 through 17
  • Case management services to help individuals and families connect to the resources they need to shape a better life
  • Jobs and job readiness assistance and on-the-job support for eligible battered women on welfare
  • Battered women's support groups in English and Spanish
  • Youth Advocacy Program support groups at our community service center for first-time juvenile offenders aged 10 through 18
  • Linkage to our shelters for battered women and their children and runaway and homeless youth
While counseling services at our community service centers are provided on a sliding-scale basis, we won't turn you away if you can't pay for services.

All our community service centers are certified by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Department of Health Services, and are licensed by the State as Psychology Clinics.

Special aid for low-income City of Los Angeles residents
Need help to learn how to be a better parent... improve your child's academic performance... get counseling or legal assistance to resolve pressing problems... and more?

If you're a low-income resident of the City of Los Angeles, you may qualify for free CLASP (Comprehensive Linkages and Services Partnership) aid through 1736 Family Crisis Center. This special program puts needy individuals and families in touch with eight agencies working together to improve their circumstances. The Center helms these efforts, partnering with California Hospital Medical Center, Community Centers, Inc. (One Stop), First A.M.E. Church, the Institute for Multicultural Counseling and Education Services, the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and T.H.E. Clinic. CLASP services include:
  • Individual, group, and family counseling for people of all ages
  • Help to assist you in identifying and accessing the resources you need to thrive
  • Parenting education
  • Tutoring for children
  • Legal aid
  • Healthcare
  • Family planning assistance
  • Help to find and keep a job
  • Transportation

Specialized help for high-risk children and teens
Across three decades, 1736 Family Crisis Center's steadfast aim has been to help traumatized children and teens heal their emotional wounds, mobilize their inner strengths, solve problems, and set goals.

Troubled kids can find nurturing short-term refuge and counseling at our emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. For more information, click here.

Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age youngsters through age 17 from violent homes can flourish at our shelters for battered women and their children. For more information, click here.
